The primary objective of an FRSecure social engineering exercise is to measure the effectiveness of the security training and awareness of a security program by attempting to influence human behavior that achieves the attacker’s objective—usually to obtain username and password credentials. To do so, FRSecure employs a number of potential techniques including email, phone, and physical methods.

Standard Phishing

A broad attack that targets individuals or groups of individuals and not a specific company. These attacks are commonly seen as unsolicited emails or postings.

Spear Phishing

Targets a specific company or person and uses what is regarded as inside information to gain trust before influencing an action.

Vishing

Utilizes the phone to gain sensitive information such as company logistics, technology or specific employee information.

Physical

Unlike physical bypass penetration testing, physical social engineering attempts to deceive employees and avoid detection to gain access to restricted areas and data within the organization.
